Interim President

Robert Goldberg became Interim President of Barnard College on March 5, 2017, as a result of a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees.

Rob joined Barnard as Chief Operating Officer in August 2014. As Chief Operating Officer, he is responsible for managing the College’s budget and finances, as well as campus services including public safety, facilities, human resources, and information technology. As a member of senior staff, he is actively engaged in a host of issues that affect students, faculty and staff. Most recently, he chaired the Presidential Task Force to Examine Divestment and continues to oversee the construction of the new Cheryl and Philip Milstein Teaching and Learning Center.

Prior to coming to Barnard, Rob completed a 25-year career in the federal government.  He served as the Director of the Office of U.S. Foreign Assistance Resources at the Department of State and was responsible for managing all aspects of the $32 billion foreign assistance budget for the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development. Before his work at the State Department, Rob served at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), first as Chief of the Force Structure and Investment Branch of OMB’s National Security Division, and later as the Deputy Associate Director for International Affairs. 

Rob is a graduate of The George Washington University, earning both his bachelor's degree in International Affairs in 1988, and a master's in International Affairs there in 1990.
